AUSTIN (KXAN) – In 2019, days after her mother – Gloria Lofton – died, Sonia Houston said Austin Police handed the keys to her late mother’s house and was told nothing about what she would find inside.“They released the house to me with blood splattered down the hallway. They released the house to me in what was a crime scene,” Houston said. “That's the house I grew up in. That's my mother,” she continued. “I wasn't prepared for it, nor did they even have the decency to say to me, Miss Houston, you're gonna walk into something we don't know if you're prepared for,” she continued. Austin Police told Houston and her sister, Christina Fultz, that Lofton’s cause of death was “undetermined,” Houston recalled. Houston said, based on the blood on the walls, she always wondered if there was more to the story. Then in 2023, Houston got a call from APD telling her someone had been arrested for her mother’s murder. “I called my sister and told her, ‘We were right,’” Houston said...Best in Austin: KXAN named best in TV news; Washington wins critics award; Yeomans, Wallace named best weather, sports

Here's the email from Nathan: Get the latest, news, weather, sports and community events delivered right to your inbox! Hi Jaime. I have a dilemma about giving gifts. If my brother and his wife give any presents to anyone in the family for holidays or birthdays, they are always, without exception, not well thought out and super cheap. Now, I know for a fact that they are very wealthy, but their gifts never reflect that. Now their 10th anniversary is coming up and my wife has picked out a nice crystal vase for them that is over $100. I’ve told her we are definitely NOT going to spend that much on them, but she says our gift should reflect our values, not theirs. I disagree! What do you think? Should our gift be nice even though they never give nice gifts to anyone? Thanks so much.NathanWell, I admit, I'm with Nathan's wife on this one. I never want to change who I am base...Remainder of Empire season, Saturday block party canceled

Dear Amy: My uncle has four daughters, each about two years apart in age, but his oldest daughter never really fit in.Their mom obsessed over the three younger girls and mostly ignored her eldest. As adults, the three younger sisters learned from a drunken aunt that their dad isn’t the oldest daughter’s biological father. It turns out their mom was pregnant with her when she met her husband (in a bar). The daughters are all now in their 50s and for decades everyone in the family has known — except her.I’ve always believed that someone should tell her. Her father and sisters have said it wasn’t their secret to tell — it was her mom’s, who died two years ago.In the past few years, the oldest daughter has cut off all ties to her family. When she didn’t go to her mom’s funeral, her father cut her out of his will without telling her. There are complicated family dynamics, to put it mildly (her mom was a severe alcoholic and emotionally abusive).I’m just a cousin, but I believe th...Latest news
