Austin ISD hosting Pride Week March 20-25 AUSTIN (KXAN) -- The Austin Independent School District announced it is holding a Pride Week celebration during the week of March 20-25. According to the district, it is to celebrate LGBTQIA students, staff and families. The district says this year's event coincides with the National LGBT Health Awareness Week.The district's plans come one year after Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton wrote a letter to then AISD superintendent Stephanie Elizalde in March 2022, condemning the district’s “Pride Week” events.Paxton wrote in the letter the lesson plans deal head-on with sexual orientation and gender identity, topics that are “unmistakably” human sexuality instruction and are “governed by state law.”Paxton said parents, not school districts, are in charge of sex education. Burnet Police patrol vehicle to raise awareness about preventing child abuse BURNET, Texas (KXAN) -- The Burnet Police Department says it will unveil a patrol vehicle Monday afternoon to raise awareness about preventing child abuse. According to an announcement released March 16, the 2022 Chevy Tahoe will be assigned to a school resource officer and will be used daily where it will be seen by children and families. Burnet PD says the vehicle will have decals of the Hill Country Children’s Advocacy Center (HCCAC) along with other decals raising awareness about child abuse prevention. The designs are permanent that will remain on the vehicle for the life of its service. The purpose of the vehicle is to bring awareness to the community and show there is always hope and support, police said.According to its website, the HCCAC serves Blanco, Burnet, Lampasas, Llano and San Saba counties. The non-profit says it primarily serves children under the age of 18 who have been the victim of sexual abuse, severe physical abuse, neglect or witness to a violent crime. HCCAC...

Tupper Lake woman accepts murder plea TUPPER LAKE, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A Tupper Lake woman has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder according to the Franklin County District Attorney's Office, in relation to a July 2022 homicide. Alexa Gallagher, 26, intentionally caused the death of her mother, Melissa Guisewhite, by stabbing her with a knife. Alleged drug dealer arrested in Montgomery County PALATINE BRIDGE, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A Palatine Bridge man was arrested and is accused of selling drugs, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office. Timothy Hart, 39, is charged with failure to appear on criminal possession and criminal sale of a controlled substance. On Thursday, Hart was arrested on an active bench warrant issued by the Montgomery County Court following a traffic stop in Palatine. The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office says his warrant was issued after failing to appear in court after possession and sale of controlled substance charges. Deputies say Hart had fled from law enforcement during previous arrest attempts on this warrant. Hart was arraigned and is held at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility without bail.

It will be cold out the door Monday, as wake up temperatures are in the 20s. However, we will be sunny, breezy, and turning warmer - highs will be in the mid to upper 50s. Spring officially begins at 4:24 p.m. Monday night, clouds will increase, and it won't be as cold. Spot showers are expected in the morning, with rain likely in the afternoon and evening. Temp highs in the mid to upper 40s, and some lingering showers overnight. Local grand masters are showing off their skills in the American Cup Tournament. That's where 16 of the best chess players in the United States are competing this week. This is the second annual American cup.A few local players are competing in the tournament - including Fabiano Caruana, who was the world championship contender in 2018.
