A series of special elections are taking place on Tuesday in the area, including a vote on the annexation of a 2-square-mile unincorporated area of St. Louis County into Manchester. This area houses businesses and about 6,500 residents. Voters can decide whether to approve or reject the annexation, a divisive and controversial issue. The annexation may lead to higher property taxes, according to St. Louis County Executive Sam Page, who also expressed concerns about losing the county's police services. Manchester officials argue that the issue revolves around taxes, with the city needing the revenue from businesses in the annexed area. Both sides are actively campaigning, and the annexation must be approved by voters in both Manchester and the proposed annexation area to pass.Balloting is also happening in St. Charles, Arnold and St. John to adopt a special three percent municipal tax on recreational marijuana sales.Men’s basketball notes: J’Vonne Hadley starring under the radar for CU Buffs

Can a player remain overlooked and unheralded even if his head coach and teammates continually laud his praises publicly? If that player is J’Vonne Hadley, the answer is a resounding yes. Thanks to an injury that cut short his solid first season with the Colorado men’s basketball team, Hadley’s offseason layoff was longer than those of his teammates. Yet Hadley picked up where he left off during CU’s season-opening 75-57 win against Towson on Monday, turning in an all-around performance that drew raves afterward.“He’s just a dawg for us,” CU point guard KJ Simpson said. “A lot of the stuff that he does does not show up on the stat sheet. The reason why we got a lot of good shots is because he would set screens and roll real hard, put pressure on the rim. And he was boxing out their opposing big man. He just does so much for us.“I talked a lot with him last year, obviously with me and him being out (down the stretch). And I knew this was the mindset he was going to have and the w...After epic opening win, CU Buffs women’s basketball to host Le Moyne in home opener

Typically, JR Payne and the Colorado women’s basketball team are quick the turn the page after a game, win or lose.Surely, the 20th-ranked Buffaloes took some extra time to enjoy a remarkable season-opening win Monday, as they stunned No. 1 LSU, 92-78, on a national stage. The Buffs don’t have much time to enjoy it, though. On Wednesday night, CU will return to the hardwood for its home opener against a lesser-known opponent, Le Moyne College.Payne said her team won’t overlook the Dolphins, though.“Well, first things first all you have to do is go back and look the last time we beat No. 1 in the country,” she said. “We went down and lost to Arizona State a couple of days later.”That was in January of 2021, when the Buffs had a still-building program that was just learning how to win. This is a much different group that’s proven it can not only win, but lock in night after night.“Because of how veteran we are, we don’t overlook anybody,” Payne said. “Our preparation for LSU was exactl...Pennsylvania county promises accurate tally after clerical error appears to flip votes for judges

By MICHAEL RUBINKAM (Associated Press)A voting machine company’s clerical error caused votes in an eastern Pennsylvania county to appear to be flipped on a ballot question that asked whether a pair of incumbent state appeals judges should be retained, officials said Tuesday.Voters were asked to decide whether Pennsylvania Superior Court Judges Jack Panella and Victor Stabile should be retained for additional 10-year terms. The “yes” or “no” votes for each judge were switched on a summary displayed to voters before they cast their ballot, said Charles Dertinger, the Northampton County director of administration. If a voter marked “yes” to retain Panella and “no” on Stabile, for example, it was reflected as “no” on Panella and “yes” on Stabile.Voters noticed the error on the printed voting records produced by the touchscreen machines, and brought it to the attention of poll workers shortly after the start of...Victims of Tesla road rage driver unhappy with attacker's sentence
